Welcome to My New Online Home
One of the most challenging things about writing a book is knowing when to stop. This is especially true with a work of scientific non-fiction, like On Second Thought, because the intellectual field never stops changing and growing. Scientists keep running experiments and writing papers, adding new insights and nuances to our understanding, so that no book can ever be complete. Even as I was in the final stages of writing and revising On Second Thought, I was still reading and reporting, trying to keep the book as fresh and current as possible. Then I stopped writing–and that was a full year ago.
But I haven’t stopped reporting. I keep careful track of new advances in the study of the heuristic mind, intellectual wrinkles that have come after I finished the book manuscript. And now I have a place to report those advances–and more important, discuss them with you, the readers. Welcome to my new website, where I hope On Second Thought will continue to grow and evolve along with the scientific enterprise it describes. My main interest is how these scientific insights affect and shape our everyday lives, and I hope you join in the ongoing discussion of both the book and its continuing evolution.
